The Concert Band program is designed to create a smooth transition for students moving from the middle school to the high school band program. The ensemble is composed of all freshman band members, in addition to upperclassmen who are joining the colorguard and wish to learn an instrument or older band students who are learning new instruments. The course is designed to allow students time to adjust to the ninety (90) minute high school schedule, the expectations and rigors of the Bandys band program, and the level of playing proficiency required to perform grade IV and V music. The ensemble is a low-stress environment designed to prepare students for the competitive and faster paced environment of the Marching/Symphonic Band. Festival performance is introduced in this group, but the focus of the ensemble is more on the continuation and development of individual and ensemble music skills. The ensemble will perform at least two concerts, one at the holiday break and one at the end of the school year, as well as performing with the marching band at a football game in the fall and with the Symphonic band at graduation in the spring. The goal of this ensemble is to prepare and motivate students to continue their band careers into the Marching/Symphonic Band.
