This class meets second semester of each year, although the marching band “becomes” the symphonic band at the end of the fall football season. The group is made up of all 10-12 grade band students, and is an indoor concert ensemble. The band performs an average of five times during the semester, and participates annually in the North Carolina Bandmasters State Concert Band Festival in March. Students in this ensemble also have opportunities to participate in solo and small group competitions, and are encouraged to audition for All-County and All-District honor bands. In addition, rising juniors and seniors may take Honors Symphonic band as an independent study course while enrolled in the Symphonic Band class. This allows students to pursue a more advanced curriculum in the band program through extended solo playing requirements and more in depth study of musical theory. The ensemble gives at least two concerts annually, one at the Holiday break and one at the end of the year. Additional performances will be scheduled in the spring semester and announced well in advance to accommodate individual scheduling concerns.
